Appeals court overturns ruling by FCC
A federal appeals court dealt a setback June 4 to the government’s efforts to regulate broadcast indecency.
A three-judge panel of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York rejected decisions by the Federal Communications Commission that said the uses of obscene language in live programs in 2002 and 2003 were indecent. more »

Tenfold increase in fines for indecency becomes law
President Bush signed into law June 15 legislation increasing by tenfold the maximum fine for indecency on television and radio. The Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act increases the maximum fine that can be levied by the Federal Communications Commission from $32,500 to $325,000. more »
