The Same Sex Controversy
Dec 13–14, 2007 - comments: 10
Same sex relationships are represented in a number of TV sitcoms, popular magazines, and in the local bookstores and coffee shops. And now many teachers of the Bible say scripture doesn’t condemn homosexuality either. Instead it is an acceptable, God-approved lifestyle. Are you surprised at that thought?
Today our conversation will be one you won’t want to miss. We have as our special guest Dr. James White. Dr. White has authored a new book, The Same Sex Controversy, with Jeffrey Niell. It provides a fresh understanding to the whole homosexual debate now engaging the Church. Dr. White is Director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, adjunct professor of Apologetics at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Phoenix and a prolific author. Today he will bring a clear understanding of scripture and church history to bear on what has become a heated debate within the Body of Christ. And he will share some of his concerns about the future of marriage and family that this controversy threatens. I’m sure the information Dr. White will share with us will provide new clarity for our listeners.
In the end, God requires that your practices align themselves with what He desires. God nowhere and in no way allows for homosexuality. But the one who repents and turns to Him, though the battle will be intense, will not be forsaken. God promises great blessings to those who forsake a life of sin in order to seek His Face. The Bible tells us that He is abounding in compassion and slow to anger, though He is at the same time a consuming fire, jealous for His glory. Let today be the first day of true freedom for you. Turn to the Father who loves you and yield to His great love and compassion. And experience the joy of standing in the awe of His presence.

I agree with the stand of Mr.White & look forward to reading his book. I’m apprehensive of the tactic used by far too many ‘church’ leaders. As we approach the Ishtar/Ashtoreth (Easter) season we see a compromise of Christianity, as it also does during the festival of invincible sun/Christ mass (both pagan holidays added to Christianity). Both of these customs are condemned by God in the Old & New Testaments & labeled as sin. A shallow study of Roman culture exposes where they originated,& pre-Constantine making Christianity the Roman Empire’s state religion, Christians were labeled atheists, tortured & killed for not partaking in them. If you’re going to label homosexuality as sin (as it should be) & Christianity cannot be compromised with it, then you must also label these other 2 pagan festivals as sin & not compromise with them – both are labeled as such by God. If you say Easter/Christmass is used to bring God glory, you open the door for the homosexual to say the same.

I’m so glad to hear a scholar, an academic mind, and most importantly a man of God following the Word of God. In the day of cultural relativism, it is refreshing to read of one who is standing on biblical principles. In Jeremiah’s day the people of God had abandoned the Word of God and the result was the Babylonians, used by God, to bring about judgment on His people. What’s happening in the churches of America today is no different. Will we return to God or remain in our rebellion? Thank you Dr. White for standing on biblical truth.

Then you must also condemn equally the consumption of pork and shellfish; you must also refrain from shaving as well as stone to death your disobedient wives and children…

You could not be more completely WRONG! In Acts, God shows Peter (us) that nothing He has created is common or unclean. Please do your research (Biblically). God never even comes close to telling us that worship of false gods is ok with Him. Even if you don’t want to do Biblical research on the matter, just look up ‘Christmas’ in the encyclopedia. However, The OT and NT are very clear - worship of false gods is abominable. The 1st Christians were killed for not participating in them, and the Pilgrims of this country wanted to leave them in England. This is not about legalism, this is about “True Worship” - God seeks true worshipers who worship Him in ‘spirit’ & ‘truth’. Its about what God thinks, not you.

The law is our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, but once we come to Christ through faith we are no longer under the law (read Galatians 3:24-25, and Acts 10:12-15). It would be manipulating scripture to say that homosexuality is therefore no longer applicable - it is condemned in the OT & NT, just as the pagan rituals Christmas/Easter. But if the church compromises and participates in one area that God calls an abomination, it stands on very weak legs to also call homosexuality abominable. We must stand for ‘truth’ in all areas of the scripture, even if that means doing away with vain tradition. Until we do that we present a divided front and will lose ground. Its supposed to be about what God wants, not man’s desires.

War. Rape. Murder. Poverty. Equal rights for gays. And which one are you protesting? Religion is your personal effort to be the best you can be in good’s eyes the way you believe he wants you to be. I personally can’t believe god would judge someone based on their sexual preferences. I don’t think he cares. The god I believe in isn’t the discriminatory jerk some others try to make him out to be. He is loving and accepting. He doesn’t like when we turn from his path, when we hurt others for our advantage or abuse our privileges. But I believe that he doesn’t condemn us if we are poor, non-white, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, Jewish, gay, bisexual, transgendered, whatever. Just because it grosses you out doesn’t mean it grosses God out. The bible is written by men, not by God. I believe the true word of God is out there, but when it was given to us it had to be written down by men, and we are infamous for our ability to distort the truth.

How many versions have existed? Who decided which gospels to accept? Men not God. The truth is out there, but its not in the bible. I believe the key points are there and thats what I follow because I believe literal interpretation is folly and an insult to my ability to use my gift of intelligence to determine right from wrong. Popes and other religious leaders have continuously manipulated the church for personal advantage. Use your personal connection with God. That’s your ultimate gift.

Part 1: Faith-v-Feelings. Read 1Tim.4 & 2Tim.4:1-5. I will agree that man has twisted God’s perfect Word over the centuries. But let us make no mistake, it is man that has twisted the meaning of the Word. God’s Word remains unchanged. The people that initially penned God’s Word suffered torturous deaths for what they believed in/wrote. So your excuse of not living by it because they wrote it wrong is pathetically weak. False teachers have been teaching false doctrines inside religious buildings to accommodate people’s feelings (itching ears) for many years. Today’s ‘churches’ are ruled by satan, the father of lies. By what standard do we say that these teachers/doctrines are false? It cannot be by your way of thinking because no one is a liar, or wrong, according to your philosophy. We say they are false teachers/wolves because we have the Bible, that never changes, as a standard.

Part 2: However, ‘the god you believe in’ is NOT the One True God, it is an idol of your own mind. You are just like the false teachers, and people with itching ears, you have created a god for yourself that allows you to do what makes you feel good and are tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive (Eph.4:14). You, as well as they, will be held accountable to God. It is each individuals responsibility to seek out God (Prov.25:2) and rightly divide the Word of Truth (2Tim.2:15), not follow the idols of their own mind and feelings. Let God be True and every man a liar (Rom.3:4).

Part 3: I encourage everyone to: 1) stay out of religious buildings (ie. ‘churches’) at all costs, they are ruled by satan. They have people who want to hear what makes them feel good, and they have thus sought teachers who are willing to teach false doctrines in order to accommodate those feelings. 2) Study, and rightly divide the Word of Truth using the original Greek/Hebrew as guidance for proper interpretation. There is software, internet sites, palm computers, etc to aide in this language conversion. Then, and only then, will God reveal himself to you, 3) Get together with others who know the Truths as taken from God’s Word, and strengthen each other – this does not/should not be done on a ritualistic basis. 4) Use God’s Word as the standard by which you live your life, make your decisions, and to receive your salvation from its author, God Himself – Jesus, the Christ.
