The Purpose-Driven Life

Dec 31, 2007–Jan 1, 2008 - comment

Today on the broadcast our special guest is Dr. Rick Warren, founding Pastor of Saddleback Community Church in Lake Forest, California, which is the largest church in the Southern Baptist Convention. Dr. Warren is also the author of the book The Purpose Driven Life, in which he seeks to help us find the answer to the Big Questions in life.

This program will be all about The Big Question, “Why am I here?” It’s one of those questions that one dwells on when drifting off to sleep in the wee hours, or drinking in the majesty of the mountains, or gazing out at the vastness of the ocean. Rick Warren believes that the way we ultimately answer that question can determine how we live our lives day to day, and how we conduct ourselves in the “nitty gritty” activities of the daily grind. Rick’s book, The Purpose Driven Life, seeks to answer this Big Question in a thoughtful, thorough, Biblical way. He joins us today to share with us the wisdom he has gleaned from God’s word.

Rick Warren has written, “We typically begin at the wrong starting point – ourselves. We ask self-centered questions like: What do I want to be? What should I do with my life? What are my goals, my ambitions, my dreams for my future? But focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose.”

“Today the average life span is 25,550 days. That’s how long you will live if you are typical. Don’t you think it would be a wise use of time to set aside 40 of those days to figure out what God wants you to do with the rest of them?”

Thank you for visiting FaithandFamily.com, a broadcast ministry of The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Comments are moderated to preserve the family-oriented nature of this website and in an attempt to avoid comment spam. We welcome opposing viewpoints, and we will not turn comments away as long as your views are presented with respect to everyone.

Please follow the these guidelines to insure your comments will be posted:

  1. Use a real name, at least a real first name. We find folks are less-rude online when not hiding behind a screen-name.
  2. Name-calling and vulgar-language will not be tolerated. Zero-tolerance is our policy. We will not spend time editing profanity. If it contains foul language, your post will be deleted. Oh, and we decide what is and what is not vulgar.
  3. Comments must be on topic. Correspondence or general comments (compliments, complaints, and otherwise) are best delivered here or expressed on your own personal Web site.
  4. And please, do not post in ALL CAPS. It looks like you're screaming. :-)

Comments will not appear immediately and are subject to editing or deletion. We will make every attempt to check new comments in a timely manner, though there will likely be delays on the weekends and around holidays. If you wish to keep your comments for your records, please save them on your own computer as comments are not guaranteed to be left up indefinitely.

Other than that, we welcome you and hope to see thoughtful discussions about For Faith & Family broadcasts.
