Memorial Day

May 28, 2007

In celebration of Memorial Day we would like to honor those who have died in service to our country by looking into the lives of some true heroes who have persevered in times of war. John Perry is going to join us to look into the inspirational life of Mary Custis Lee, wife of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. And Jim Ryun is here to show us some everyday heroes you might not have heard of before. But first, we’ll listen as Dr. Richard Land shares his thought’s on Memorial day with us.

We are going to talk today about a woman who, from the world’s point of view, had every right to give up. But instead, she kept the faith. Our first guest is biographer, John Perry. John has used his talents to bring to life, a special woman from our history, Mrs. Mary Custis Lee. Most of our listeners will know her best as Mrs. Robert E. Lee, wife of the famous general who led the Confederate forces during the War Between the States.

Today, more than ever, America needs heroes—people who are great examples, and our second guest is here to show us what a true hero looks like. It’s not about performing great feats, it’s about sacrifice, commitment and duty. Congressman Jim Ryun has studied people who embody these traits, and his book Heroes Among Us tells their stories.
