Long Journey Home

Today on the broadcast our special guest is Dr. Os Guinness. Currently he is Senior Fellow for the Trinity Forum in McLean, Virginia. He is a Christian thinker, teacher, and an author of over 20 books. He has written a book titled The Long Journey Home: A Guide to Your Search for the Meaning in Life.

For the honest, sincere seeker, the world offers a number of paths to follow. Differing religions and philosophies lead to different destinations. Sorting it all out can be confusing. Os Guinness has penned a book which provides for the seeker a refreshing clarity to this confusion. In The Long Journey Home he follows each path to its logical end and finds that only one path truly leads “home.”

Os Guinness has written, “‘Follow me,’ Jesus said two thousand years ago-and changed the course of history.” Jesus was the ultimate “seeker.” In His life, by His example, and in His death, by His sacrifice, he embodied the purpose and meaning of life. He has taken the journey before us and calls each of us to follow Him.

I was listening to your show on the way back from the store and one of the things I like to use to define ‘Truth’ is “That which can not contradict itself”.  When one says, “There is no truth.” They use a statement which defeats itself. It therefore can not be true for if there is no truth then saying there is no truth is false. I believe this is a more secular way of saying the Biblical precedent, “It is impossible for God to lie.”

One other thing. Some of the comments I make on the site are a bit strong. They are intended to acknowledge the age old argument that there are ‘hypocrites’ in the church. By addressing this first, I am attempting to take the ‘gloves off’, getting Christians to look in the mirror and fully realize HOW MUCH Jesus gave up so that we won’t be surprised when we FOLLOW HIM.

There is so much to say and so little time to say it as I am sure you and Mr. Guinness are aware.

My website is practicallychristian.com

  3. Comments must be on topic. Correspondence or general comments (compliments, complaints, and otherwise) are best delivered here or expressed on your own personal Web site.
  4. And please, do not post in ALL CAPS. It looks like you're screaming. :-)
