Heaven Help The Home Today

Aug 4–5, 2008 - comment

Whether you are brand new parents discovering the joys and fears of raising a precious new bundle, or veterans battling in the trenches leading your company of kids through the land mines of life, or seasoned grandparents who have discovered that there is a whole new generation for you to influence, today’s guest has a wealth of wisdom and experience to share with you.

Today our special guest is Dr. Howard Hendricks. He is the Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Center for Christian Leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he has taught for over 50 years. He is also an author of numerous books on the home-one of which we will be discussing with him today. It is the newly updated version of his classic, Heaven Help the Home Today.

Howard says, “God has placed us in families, a privilege we should never take lightly. We are not suggesting a dark, dour home with eyes and ears closed to the world, but one where every modern invention is considered and dedicated to the overall purpose of enjoying life as God meant to be. Nothing in all of the world is more attractive than that dot on the map called home, when it is celebrated with fun and exudes warm comfort.” (pp 9-10)

I want to encourage our listeners to get a copy of Heaven Help the Home Today. It is filled with practical ideas and insights that can help all of us in leading our families. It follows that if God’s basic institution to influence society is the family, we need to get it right, and we need to do it His way. Now more than ever our society, our culture, needs to see Christian families functioning as God intended-shining like beacons, lighting the way in an ever darkening world.

  1. Use a real name, at least a real first name. We find folks are less-rude online when not hiding behind a screen-name.
  2. Name-calling and vulgar-language will not be tolerated. Zero-tolerance is our policy. We will not spend time editing profanity. If it contains foul language, your post will be deleted. Oh, and we decide what is and what is not vulgar.
  3. Comments must be on topic. Correspondence or general comments (compliments, complaints, and otherwise) are best delivered here or expressed on your own personal Web site.
  4. And please, do not post in ALL CAPS. It looks like you're screaming. :-)

Comments will not appear immediately and are subject to editing or deletion. We will make every attempt to check new comments in a timely manner, though there will likely be delays on the weekends and around holidays. If you wish to keep your comments for your records, please save them on your own computer as comments are not guaranteed to be left up indefinitely.

Other than that, we welcome you and hope to see thoughtful discussions about For Faith & Family broadcasts.
