Friends, Foes, and Fools
Jan 30–31, 2006
Today’s guest has written, “The most endangered species in America is not the spotted owl nor the snail darter, but the responsible father.” Join us as he tells us why.
Our special guest is Dr. James Merritt, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Snellville, Georgia. Dr. Merritt has written a book for fathers titled Friends, Foes and Fools. When I think back to when I was in school, it probably would have been a good idea for my dad to share this book with me. Because some of the ones that I called friends would have fit into one of the other categories.
The book cover says, “In a world of Friends, Foes, and Fools fathers can teach their kids to know the difference.” God’s vehicle for social order in the family. It is His desire that the family be a safe place of nurture–for lessons about life and love, and lessons about Himself to be learned. Sadly, all too often across America this is not the reality. Homes are fractured, broken. Even parents in intact homes–with the best of plans and intentions–are often sidetracked by the tyranny of all that is required to make a living and provide for the basic needs of a family. Today’s guest has issued a call to all parents, especially fathers, to stop, regroup, and refocus on what is essential. He has done it in this wonderfully readable book titled Friends, Foes and Fools.
