Adolescence Isn’t Terminal

Today on the broadcast our special guest is psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman, author of the book Adolescence Isn’t Terminal: It Just Feels Like It. I’m sure you can all tell from that title that we are all in for a fun time today.
It would seem that all parents, having once been adolescents themselves, would have an edge when it comes to understanding this complex mixture of raging hormones and roller coaster emotions that suddenly appears at the breakfast table one morning. But as today’s guest points out, “The only thing more difficult than being an adolescent is trying to parent one.”
Kevin Leman and his wife Sande have, as he puts it, “walked three children through this process” and were taking the fourth as this book was being penned. He brings to this topic not only his professional expertise as a psychologist and counselor and his personal experience, but his marvelous sense of humor, as well. We have had Kevin on our show several times before, on some of his other books, and every time it has proven to be both entertaining and enlightening.
Parenting an adolescent is no easy feat. Those cuddly cherubs that we’ve so tenderly nurtured can suddenly become strangers in our homes. As Kevin Leman points out, all of the rules and regulations we’ve constructed for training infants and toddlers must give way to building a relationship with the teen across the dinner table from us.
