I am a teacher. A few years ago I moved to a small town with small school, the religious infrastructure of the town is very strong, many of the people who live in this town are also related. It is a VERY family oriented town.
One day the school counselor and I were visiting and she commented how, in all the schools she has been in she has seen very little depression in the children in this school. The connectedness these children experience in this community stands out like no other I have been in, and the answer to her observation is found in the presentation of Hardwired to Connect. This town IS all the things recommended. The people are committed to the children, they are all connected, the whole town turns out for school events, FATHERS come on field trips and help out at the school. All adults tell the kids put your sweater on and they do. Connected ness works, I see it .
