This is a VERY biased telling of what this hate crimes legislation is REALLY about. Don’t you understand that it protects Baptists as well? Religion is one of the protections listed. Please stop being so scared of gay people. You’re beginning to make yourselves look just silly and MEAN spirited. Not very Christian.

“One of the nation’s leading Southern Baptists has called for a policy that would support medical treatment, if it were to become available, to change the sexual orientation of a fetus inside its mother’s womb from homosexual to heterosexual. This latest assault on our dignity and existence comes from no less a personage than Rev. R. Albert Mohler, the president of the prominent and influential Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary is the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention and one of the largest seminaries in the world.

Acknowleding the strides that genetic science is making in identifying and isolating genetic abnormalities, defects and diseases, Mohler embraces this advance in medical science as yet another tool in the war to root out and cleanse sin.”

I am at a loss for words. It looks like gays NEED special protection from that kind of “Christian” thinking… it’s eugenics all over again..

By taking a position against proposed legislation on hate crimes, you are arguing that such acts are acceptable. This seems at odds with the SBC’s vision of itself as a ‘Christian’ organization.

Think of it as stopping someone from stoning a woman for being socially unacceptable. [I’ve heard a story to that effect.]

The ONLY reason the SBC opposes this legislation is due to their inordinate preoccupation with homosexuality, which they use as leverage to gain political and social clout.

The ‘comments’ of ‘Dr’ Mohler are absurd! They deny the very essence of science. “no discovery in science or any other human endeavor can change God’s verdict.” and “Such a discovery, if it were to be accepted, would not change God’s condemnation of all forms of homosexual behavior, nor would it mean that this represents the inviolable “identity” of any individual. “

This is today’s equivalent of Christianity’s condemnation of the early astronomers who dared posit that the earth revolved around the sun. [which took some five centuries to correct]

The absurdity of ‘Dr’ Mohler’s statements are evident to anyone whose age has not numerically surpassed his IQ.

I am opposed to people who murder, steal, and abuse others (physically, emotionally and sexually), but not because of hate. I am against people who do these things because these are wrong. You know that tolerance is unachievable in the way that it is portrayed concerning Christianity. Christians are not tolerated when they follow what is taught in the Bible concerning various sins. However, Christians are expected to accept any behavior without regards to the Bible. I think people should at least be consistent in what they present.

Christians are taught to not judge others, lest they be judged. That is hard for all of us to keep but it is most important that we as Christians keep it because Christ calls us to. We are to make an example of love. If we all just mind our own affairs and leave judgment to God, I think harmony would come much easier. (myself included here) We just see the speck in our neighbor’s eye so much more clearly than that big ole log hanging from our own.

Just so we stay consistent we should quote all Scripture accurately.

Matthew 7:1-5 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Obviously here Christ tells us to judge, but reminds us that we will be judged in the same manner with which we judge others. You can read the following verses to realize that Scripture is clear in the fact that Christians should judge.

Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.”

John 7:24 “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

1 Cor. 2:15 “But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.”

All Scripture referenced came from the NKJV.

I do agree that many judge in unbiblical ways, but that does not change what is right and what is wrong. Logically carried out the way of thinking outlined in the previous comment would excuse all wrong behavior.

Thanks.

Brandon,
Thank you for expounding on that Scripture. However, I think the germane point is simply Matthew 7:1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.” A wise man once said that you should walk a mile in another man’s shoes before coming to any conclusions about his actions. I think that holds here. There are so many people weighing in on gay issues, some of them have no idea of what it is like to be gay, however, they have lots of opinions on how we should and should not live our lives.

One needs wise discernment when proclaiming how others should live and love, and frequently the wisest voice is the silent one.

Dan,
This will most likely be my last post because it is obvious that you are only interested in using Scripture in a way that is beneficial to your agruement. You don’t read anything in part, you read it as a whole. The passage I gave you is clear.

How do you know that I haven’t walked in your shoes? You don’t, and I don’t think you care if I have or have not. This arguement can hold true for any behavior and therefore it is not logical to hold such a view.

Silence helps to ease a guilty mind, the facts make one realize his/her shortcomings and wrong doings. I am not trying to change your mind, I am just asking that you don’t use Scripture in the wrong context just to advance your position.

Thanks.

‘Logic’ may be a road you shouldn’t go down! Don’t try to pass off ‘faith’ as ‘fact’; the two are NOT interchangeable.

Having a homosexual relationship, is no different than having a premarital relationship, or committing adultery. All of these are sin and those who commit them are not able to go to heaven. They cannot have the Spirit of God in them, because God can not dwell with sin. It has nothing to do with just being a homosexual, it is any sexual sin. These are sin whether it is between man and man, or man and woman. Those who believe they can be saved, and homosexual, or saved and be adulterers, or saved and commit premarital sins, will be in for a rude a.wakening. If one believes in God, and lives in sexual sin, they need to repent, and turn from their wicked ways. This is love because God is not rejecting you, you are rejecting Him, who is Holy and cannot remain with sin
