Pushing Back the Darkness
- Dec 14, 2011 -
New Orleans is unlike any other city in the United States–geographically and culturally. Its recent history includes a slow but steady return from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Yet, a dark cloud of death still hangs over the city. There were reportedly almost 2,000 abortions in the city in 2009—more than all the deaths attributed to Katrina and the resulting floods.
The Psalm 139 Project and Louisiana Southern Baptists are ready to push back the darkness and rescue the city’s unborn who are at risk (Proverbs 24:11-12).
Along with the Louisiana Baptist Convention, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission is seeking donations to the Psalm 139 Project in order to fund a portable ultrasound machine to be put into use in New Orleans. This mobile unit will allow pregnancy care workers to travel into areas of great need, providing life-affirming and God-honoring care to those who may not be able or willing to travel to a pregnancy care center.
The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission launched the Psalm 139 Project as a means for Southern Baptists to get involved in saving lives–physically and spiritually. Today the Psalm 139 Project is a cooperative effort of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, the North American Mission Board, and state Baptist conventions.
Through funds given by generous donors just like you, the Psalm 139 Project has already placed machines in pregnancy centers across the nation, including Arizona, Texas, California, Colorado, Mississippi, Indiana, and Florida. These ultrasound machines cost approximately $25,000, an amount that can be an overwhelming financial burden for a center.
Tax-deductible gifts can be sent to the “Psalm 139 Project,” c/o ERLC, 901 Commerce St., Suite 550, Nashville, TN 37203. You can also give easily and securely online through PayPal.
As you consider your gifts during this special time of year, we hope you will consider giving the gift of life through your support of the Psalm 139 Project and be a part of this very special effort to get an ultrasound-equipped vehicle on the streets of New Orleans.
Would you pray about how the Lord would have you partner with us in this effort? If you choose to give a tax-deductible gift to the Psalm 139 Project, you can make an online donation and learn more about the Psalm 139 Project by visiting Psalm139Project.org. No Cooperative Program funds are used in the placement of machines. The only way that machines can be purchased is through gifts to the project.
God has redeemed us that we might do good works in His name and to His glory (Titus 2:11-14). We hope you will join us in partnering together to save lives and further the spread of the Gospel in New Orleans.
