The Naked Truth

The Naked Truth by Lakita Garth

In her book The Naked Truth, author Lakita Garth, an internationally known abstinence advocate, presents a very convincing defense of an abstinent lifestyle before marriage. Drawing from her own background and experiences as the daughter of a strong mother figure and the younger sister of several older brothers, Garth obviously writes from what she knows and teaches.

In The Naked Truth, Garth, a former Miss Black California, explains that self-control, self-discipline, and delayed gratification—all of which seem to be in short supply today—are essential to living an abstinent lifestyle in our sex-saturated culture. She not only champions these principles, but also gives concrete reasons why abstinence until marriage has immeasurable benefits.

Quoting the latest statistics regarding STDs, she presents a vivid description of “America’s Most Unwanted” diseases along with their causes, treatments, and ultimate consequences. Armed with this information, it is hard to imagine why any thinking person would take such risks.

For those who still doubt, she presents a rebuttal to every line of reasoning that says abstinence until marriage is just not possible. While the culture tells us that everyone is sexually active, so it’s better to make sex “safe,” Garth shows how abstinence, followed by marriage to an uninfected person, is the only way to ensure safe sex. She encourages the reader that it’s never too late to begin living an abstinent lifestyle, regardless of one’s past behavior. She also warns that sexual intimacy never just “happens,” but involves escalating behavior and actions that eventually lead a person to decide that what goes on behind closed doors will not hurt anyone.

Humorous and truthful, The Naked Truth is a good book for teenagers, young adults, and parents who are looking for reasons to settle for only God’s best.

As a former teacher I agree totally with the above discussion, but simply the promotion of abstinence is not working, all one has to do, is be involved in a school setting to see this.  A recent study says the same, Study: Abstinence classes don’t stop sex, AP, Saturday, April 14, 2007.  Sex education should be mandatory in each and every school, it should be taught in detail.  Period:  Students are not getting the information they need from their parents, and regardless of any abstinence program, many students will have sex by age 15, or soon after.  Laying aside morals and ethics, fact is fact, kids are having sex at a younger age, there is no use in trying to deny this statement.

im 13 years old and i have descided to live a sex free untill marridge life. i have a bf that i love very much and we have both talked about this. i told him early in the relationship that im not going to “put out” he is okay with this and still loves me. all of my friends have had sex and i have absolutely no desire to be like them. there are two girls pregnant in my class and im not going to fallow in their footsteps. i think what really made me make this decision is my mom. she always talkes about how if she would have finished high school and waited for the right person that we would be living alot better life now.

My wife and I know Lakita very well and fully agree with her teaching on abstinence. We have raised two teenagers one of whom is currently attending college in NC. They both speak openly with us as their parents concerning their temptations with sex and relationships and they both stand as virgin young men strengthened through the word of God, home teaching and self discipline. We handle one day at a time believing that if God said to wait until marriage than there most be a good reason. That is why everything man does to go around that truth fails and is destroying the fabric of this country trying to make a right way out of wrong. We love you too Lakita, keep standing for Jesus and our teens, congrats too!!
